UPDATE - SEMI FINAL IN PORTSMOUTH HISTORICAL DOCKS
It was another amazing day at another incredible location with some more wonderful artists.  We were given a very tricky view of the magnificent HMS Warrior,  a rising tide and blustery weather - it would not be an exaggeration to say I was out of my comfort zone!  However, I did my best and felt that my finished painting was a decent piece and gave a true interpretation of my experience on the day.  While I was disappointed not to go through to the final, overall I felt enormously fortunate to be part of such a life affirming experience!

HEAT 2 MOUNT SNOWDON YR WYDDFA, ERYRI SNOWDONIA
Lustrous is the painting that secured my place on the prestigious show and Head in the Clouds, Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon),  is the painting that won me that heat! Filming took place this summer, when me and my granddaughter  Izzie, drove to the stunning North Wales Location from our homes in Pembrokeshire. It was a very intense painting day, strictly speaking the painting had to be completed within 4 hours, but we could elect to work through the lunch hour and were given some leeway to account for lots of stops and starts for filming. So engrossed was I, I didn't get time to look more closely at the other paintings, which I only saw when we were in the judging ring and then only from a distance. Watching the incredibly professional 60 strong production team from Story Vaults Films in action was fascinating and their  patience and kindness were endless. It was a fascinating experience and a wonderful professional affirmation but I could never imagine that I would win my heat, both Izzie and I were very emotional!   I had the best time with the other talented painters,  and I am so grateful to the supportive production team from Story Vault Films, judges Tai San Schierenberg, Kate Brian, Kathleen Soriano and presenter Steven Mangan. What a day!

Exciting Commissions

I was delighted to received two prestigious portrait commissions from Aberystwyth University earlier in 2024.
Its was lovely to work with my two sitters, retiring University Vice-Chancellor Elizabeth Treasure and retiring Chair Of Council Emyr Roberts.  Here are some of the studies and pose maquettes I made during the painting process. As a former student and tutor at Aberystwyth University, I have had the honour to be commissioned by them once before, to paint the then retiring University President, Lord Elystan Morgan, whose completed portrait is the last below.
